Sid Meier's Colonization App Reviews

Unplayable

Straight port of the PC version but not enhanced for touch controls, instead you try to drag your finger to make the mouse pointer move and its very hard to do accurately. Poorly done. ugh.

Same as the origional

This game is great, the playability though makes it difficult due to the mouse. Would be great if i had a bluetooth mouse to connect. This is the DOS version of the game set to run in iOS, which is what i wished civilization was. It is a very long game and would recommend reading a guide online. Also you can find quick commands for the keyboard so you do not need to use the mouse so often.

Barely working...

I loved the original game decades ago, but this iOS version is a bad joke.

It is the original

I was elated when I found this on the App Store. If you ever played the original game, you will recognize this immediately. The control scheme is a little awkward on a touch screen, but that is because they did not modify the game in any way, and that is a good thing. The greatest strength of this game is that it is exactly the same as the original DOS game. Be patient with learning the controls, it is worth the time you put into it.

Awful "port" of a great game.

The original ran better on my 386sx. I have an IPad Pro. Its a shame Sid let them do this to one of the great games.

Its exactly the old game!

Its really the old game that I played back in the day! Ive forgotten a lot of it but its coming back to me. Youll need patience to play cause of the lag time and the controls are wonky. It does work you just have to know how what and where to select. Trial and error. That said, glad I got it! Four stars just cause of the controls. Five if they fix it!

Trade ???

Anyone know how to trade??? Other than that, its ok. Not worth 2.99 though.

not worth the price

i loved this game on the pc. but it is unplayable on my iPad.

One of my favorites!

I was excited to see this game in the App Store! Its probably my favorite game of all time. I so wanted to give this game 5 stars but I cant figure out how to load what I want onto a ship. The other things i can work with but its really tough not being able to load what I need onto the ship. I REALLY hope they get the controls working a little better then I can give it a full 5 stars. If anyone can tell me what Im doing wrong with loading ships Im all ears!

Updated review

Loving it! Okay folks. This game is literally the game from 96. If you loved it then. Youll love it now. But patience is needed. There is still the lag time between moves. If you look in the lower left corner of the screen you will see what I mean. Heres some tips. 1st when loading. Pull up the keyboard and hit enter to fast forward. You cannot >> the ship leaving port the first time. 2nd For loading/unloading the ship, with the white arrow on the product. Click on it twice (move the arrow to it and NOT on the keyboard, tap the screen)and then hit the + button. That will allow you to to pick what to load and how much of it. That said. Visit colonizationfans.com for more tips! Enjoy!! I know I am. :-)

Zero Stars! Save your $!

This app is a joke! Ive been playing Sid Meiers Colonization since it came out in the early 1990s. This app looks like a 3rd-rate pirated copy of the game. Its too pixelated so everything looks blurry. The controls are meant to be a simulated keyboard, but its awkward and difficult to use, especially on an iPad mini. The music and sound effects on the original computer games was excellent. The apps music is cheap 8-bit chip music. I doubt this is really a Sid Meiers product as they usually do quality work. If it is legitimate, then their efforts failed tremendously. Please put out a product with improved graphics, sound and gameplay that works well on iPads.

Perfect recreation of a classic mid-90s game!

This app does exactly what youd expect: recreates the experience of playing this amazing mid-90s game, including pixelated (yet endearing) graphics, midi-type sound, etc. Not sure what the negative reviews were expecting, or maybe they dont remember what games were like twenty years ago? Make sure to look at the sample screenshots for an idea of what the graphics are like. Im playing on an iPad, maybe it wouldnt be as pleasant on the smaller screen of an iPhone.

Terrible experience

Slow, awkward, and tedious. Theres actually a mouse pointer you need to drag around! Was a huge fan of original game-this isnt worth any time or money.

Stay Away (for now)

Looks EXACTLY like I remember the old DOS game. The controls, however, just dont translate. Until they do I cant recommend this. However IF they create decent controls then it looks like the gameplay will be reminiscent of the game I loved so much.

Should have listened to reviews

Not worth $2.99, not worth $0.99, not worth it if free. Graphics and playability are awful. Shame on Apple for letting in store.

No good

Apple rejects 6% of their apps during review for bad layout/UI. This should have been one of those rejections. Youre going to have to customize the game towards smart phone playability. This current version is the original MS Dos version loaded onto the iPhone with no changes assuming you have a full keyboard and mouse. Boo. This does a disservice to Sid Meiers good name and Apple....what were you thinking approving this for release in your good name??? SHAME
